Educational Vision Statement

Continue the tradition of academic excellence for District 1 and greater SCPS!!

Here is how:

• Eliminate "Common Core" and greatly reduce or eliminate "Standardized Testing"!

• Seek collaborative partnerships with Government, Industry and Academia K-20.

• Advocate increased technology infusion into our curriculum.

I wish to continue the academic excellence of District 1 and SCPS by maximizing instructional time, seeking partnerships with government, industry and academia, and increasing technology infusion into curriculum. I have 10 years School Board Service, Township of Ocean, NJ; 25 years Government Engineer Career; and taught Physics/Physical Science, at Sanford Magnet Middle School; currently with National Science Teachers Association.

Just for the record, here is what I will to do to combat "Over-testing and Common Core" intrusion into our local control of SCPS once elected:

1.) Working in conjunction with current and elected SCPS Board Members plus Parents, School Administrators,Teachers etc. build a strong consensus with other Local School Districts in Central Florida.
Let's all speak with one voice of opposition to the often misguided Educational Testing Mandates and Unfair/Unfunded Dictates from Tallahassee. Let's let our great teachers teach and let's let our expert administrators administrate!

2.) Believe Local Central Florida Governments, Local Industries, and Higher Academia also have a big part to play in any "Future Work Force Development". They too have a vested interest in our children succeeding in the classroom. Our children are the future knowledge workers of the 21st Century's Global Economy.

3.) I want to build a growing Educational Consortium of Local Government, Industry and Academia (K-20) Partners in stopping or greatly slowing Common Core and too much Standardized Testing; wasting valuable classroom instruction time.

4.) SCPS is a fine example of how to build a strong educational system. Let's all work together to continue our fine tradition of Academic Excellence!!!ow a little more about you.

Once elected...

Here is what I proposed to do near term, while building cooperation and consensus among current and future SCPS Board of Education Members and Administrators:

1.) Increase "School Safety Training" for all SCPS Administrators, Teachers and Non-instructional Staff. These are dangerous times, so let's prepare for the worst, just in case!

2.) Improve communications among parents, teachers, administrators and local government and industries to assist our lowest performers and schools. We are all stakeholders in the education of our youth, if they are to become the effective knowledge workers in a competitive and global economy.

3.) Provide adequate resources including training for increased technology infusion into our K-12 curriculum.

4.) Stimulate support with local government and industry to assist and augment the SCPS arts and music programs.

Comments welcome!"

Dr. Curcio told Frank Martz II, current Altamonte Springs City Manager and creator the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator (AS2I), when asked for some feedback on his recent visit...plus his comment on going beyond STEM and into the Arts and Music as well!

"AS2I is a tremendous science learning tool and fertile ground for our SCPS Students,Teachers,Parents or Guardians to view nature up close. Participants see real "natural science" lessons (K-12) come to life in an outdoor lab environment. And its a must see and do for all including visitors from near and far.

Once students have visited and explored the richness of Lake Lotus Park, they move on to the AS Regional Water Reclamation Plant near by for more in-depth STEM water discovery and hands-on lab investigations that are real fun and very educational.

AS2I is the type of successful collaboration/partnership of local government, industry and academia, I will seek to model and expand upon in other venues like music and arts, once elected to SCPS Board of Education on 26 August 2014. Thanks Frank Martz II"
